On Saturday, I attended BarCampMadison2, which was a really great experience. Two of the sessions I attended, one on non-profits and technology, and another on accessibility, have already proved applicable in my daily life! I strongly urge anyone involved in web design or development to attend one of these camps-the wealth of knowledge and experience that the participants bring to the table is extremely valuable.
Right now, I’m teaching art to children ages 4-6, and its interesting to see how they draw. Their art is really compelling, but they all, without fail, draw certain objects as symbols. And unless you learn to draw using your eyes, and not the conventions your brain is telling you to draw, you will always draw using symbols. Drawing is a curious discipline.
This article, about how the mirror “has become a powerful tool for scientists to explore how the brain interprets (and misinterprets) information”, reminded me of how difficult it was to learn to draw.
For the record, the song Bettie B. Goode bent her toe off to was the Scorp’s “Rock You Like a Hurricane”. Unfortunately, I can’t find an embeddable version of the original. Fortunately, I found *this*.
On a side note, my dad told me that he invented air guitar in 1973 in the Commons at Appleton East High School during a dance. The song…D’yer Maker. I still kind of believe him.
3D plotting technologies collected information about the shapes and relative distances of objects. The video was created entirely with visualizations of that data.
Radiohead is the geekiest band ever. Check out their awesome new video for their song “House of Cards”. Not only is it a beautiful “Radioheadish” song, it was also made without using cameras or lighting. Check it out below.
