A Bold & Gold Picture Book
My Very Own Special Particular Private and Personal Cat
I love everything about this book, the story, the characters, the writing, and most of all the illustration.
Written by Sandol Stoddard Warburg and designed and illustrated by Remy Charlip, this charming picture book features a bold color palette of gold, orange, white, and cream that complement the simple but evocative illustrations.
It was difficult to choose my favorite image, but this page of the cat in an almost heraldic pose climbing a dandelion-like tree was emblematic of the subject and so beautifully done.
If you love something, set it free.
Speaking of the subject matter this book resonates with a universal truth—our attempts to control relationships often clash with the inherent independence of those we love. The boy’s journey serves as a metaphorical mirror reflecting the broader human experience—whether it’s our cherished pets, family members, or friends, each individual has their own set of boundaries, desires, and dreams. It’s a reminder that love flourishes not through possession but through mutual respect and understanding.
